Born and raised in Austria to Nigerian parents, Rilwan has navigated life at the intersection of two worlds, drawing strength from both and refusing to be defined by the limitations either might impose. Growing up, the expectations placed on him as a young person of Nigerian origin in Austria were often lower than what he knew he was capable of. Rather than internalising that ceiling, he let it fuel him. Today, he is the founder of Mogaji Digital Communications, an SEO agency he has led for five years, and the driving force behind the Diaspora Business Hub — a platform designed to give members of the African diaspora access to knowledge, networks, and the kind of environment where ambition is not just allowed, but actively nurtured. His Personal Insights What drives Rilwan is not simply business success — it is something far more personal. It genuinely breaks his heart, he says, to witness people from the African diaspora underestimate their own potential or settle for a smaller version of what their life could be. “It genuinely breaks my heart to see people — especially from the African diaspora who grew up here or were born here — having a limited perception of who they are and who they can become. ” The first real shift in his own mindset came when he encountered young Nigerians who had not grown up in Austria. Their confidence was different — more expansive, more anchored in possibility. That contrast was revelatory. It showed him that his own limited self-perception had not been inevitable — it had been shaped by environment. “It made me realize that the way I had been thinking about myself wasn't necessarily the truth — it was just a result of the environment I grew up in. ” The Journey Rilwan's roots in Nigeria — experienced through his parents' example rather than childhood in Lagos — have been a defining compass. He watched them build their careers from scratch after migrating to Austria. “Nigerian culture is very solution-oriented. It's resilient, hardworking, and focused on finding ways forward, no matter the circumstances. That mindset — resilience, ownership, and action — is something that defines how I think and how I build businesses today. ” Later, working within a company he found operating with a short-term mindset — always chasing quick fixes rather than building something lasting — he saw the same pattern playing out on a business level. The answer was clear. “If I wanted to think bigger, build bigger, and fully explore what's possible, I needed a different path. Entrepreneurship became that path ” For Rilwan, entrepreneurship is not just a career. It is a philosophy — a way of creating a life and environment where growth is not limited by other people's expectations, but driven by your own vision. The first edition of Creatives Dates! held on March 16th, 2024 gathered around 20 participants for a fun evening, and created positive resonances even after the event with feedback collected from the participant. New relationships and business connections were formed. Different participants commanded the goal of the events' goal in building a strong sense of community. It is backed by these very important feedbacks that the second edition was created around the topic of the importance of community, which is essential for diaspora members, talents, etc.. for reasons such as support system, sense of belonging, shared of experience, advocacy and voice raising, resource sharing, empowerment, cultural exchange and many more. The second episode came back with the goal to make a stronger impact. Episode II of Creatives Date aimed for a welcoming atmosphere to connect with creatives and Diaspora members, engage in deep and inspiring talks, bonding and discovering talents. This meet-up hosted 30 guests around networking activities, a stage for self-promotion and a delightful Brunch with inspiring discussions! All guests were invited to share their views, exchange of experiences on the importance of community for growth and development, especially for creatives and diaspora members, through The Networking Games Cards, created by Diaspora Creatives and ADYFE. For business owners, project holders, creatives and diaspora members in general, this event served as a channel for self-promotion, awareness raising on initiatives and projects, creation of new connections that will grow beyond our event and a safe space to support growth and visions.
