Benin has spent a decade turning heritage into strategy: new museums, restituted royal treasures, and a destination identity built around cultural memory. OUVERTURE takes ten travellers into the middle of that transformation, through art in every form it takes.
WHY "OUVERTURE"?
OUVERTURE carries the same meaning in French, English and German, and points in two directions at once: Benin's own opening to the world, visible in its reforms, new museums, art restitution and "World of Splendors" branding push; and Diaspora Creatives' opening into a programme, of which this trip is the pilot edition. In its musical sense, an ouverture is the piece that introduces everything that follows, which is exactly how this first cohort is positioned, a beginning, not a one-off. OUVERTURE also makes no assumption about participants' own heritage: the audience is diaspora and allies alike, and describes an invitation to discover.

BEHIND THE PROGRAMME
Diaspora Creatives and EVA TOURS
OUVERTURE is DC's flagship travel programme, translating its mission { creating cultural experiences connecting the African diaspora and allies to African creative life, and promote a positive narrative about Africa in Europe} into a direct, physical encounter with Benin. It partners with EVA TOURS, a travel startup founded by a DCC Member.
As ground partner, EVA TOURS provides local logistics, vetted guides, reliable transport, and strong relationships with local communities. Trips are delivered in English and German alongside French, matching DC's core audience. The partnership is also a deliberate choice to invest in diaspora-led entrepreneurship in Benin itself. As part of this partnership, EVA TOURS contributes to Diaspora Creatives through a built-in donation that supports DC's wider work.
