Networking is at the heart of growth for the Diaspora community. This sentiment was echoed during the various networking event organized, where members, creatives and entrepreneurs gathered to exchange ideas, support each other, discuss challenges, and explore new opportunities. For members of the Diaspora, these events are more than just opportunities to connect; they are essential for finding solutions, creating collaborations, and shaping the future of their endeavors.
Networking: A Vital Resource for Diaspora Creatives
At these events, it became clear that networking is a powerful resource for the Diaspora. It was emphasized that through connecting with one another, they can share experiences, tackle common challenges, and tap into a wealth of knowledge. Entrepreneurs and creatives alike found networking events to be an invaluable space to gain new insights, exchange ideas, and establish partnerships.
The CREATIVES DATES! events by Diaspora Creatives highlighted how important it is to have a platform where members of the Diaspora can come together to show the way forward, find opportunities, and help each other navigate the complexities of the creative industries but also entrepreneurial life and Diaspora related matters. The Seti-Women networking event elevated the idea of sisterhood among Diaspora women who often shared commen challenges,
"In these spaces, we’re not just meeting people—we’re discovering solutions. Someone else’s experience could open doors you didn’t even know existed." This statement captures the essence of why networking within the Diaspora is crucial: it provides a roadmap, helps build connections, and sparks the creative ideas needed to grow.
A Shared Vision: Elevating African Products and Narratives
A powerful and unifying theme of the networking event organized by Dokunvi in Paris, was the collective desire to elevate African products to places they’ve never reached before. The same applies for initiatives and projects. African creativity has immense untapped potential, and it is time for the Diaspora to push these products into the global spotlight, increasing their visibility and value.
"We need to take African products, art, and ideas to places where they’ve never been imagined. This is how we spread positive narratives about the Diaspora and show the world what we are capable of." By pushing the boundaries and increasing the value of their projects, Diaspora members can not only showcase their talent but also rewrite the global narrative about Africa and its people. Part of Diaspora Creatives mission is to highlight the importance of spreading these positive stories to change perceptions and celebrate the richness and diversity of Diaspora creativity.
The Challenge of Lack of Support Within the Diaspora
Despite the positive energy and ambitious ideas, there was a shared recognition of a significant challenge: the lack of support within the Diaspora itself. Some openly acknowledged that this lack of internal backing often hinders the community from reaching its full potential. Too often, creatives and entrepreneurs struggle to find the energy and resources to grow their initiatives due to insufficient support from within their own networks.
"We have so much potential, but we’re not always supporting each other in the ways that we should. Imagine how much more we could achieve if we were lifting each other up." The consensus was clear and observed during EP-II of the CREATIVES DATE networking event: for the Diaspora to thrive, there must be a concerted effort to foster a culture of mutual support, collaboration, and shared success.
Moving Forward: Building a Stronger, More Connected Diaspora

Despite the challenges, there is a renewed commitment to change the narrative within the Diaspora. There also is a collective determination to cultivate a stronger sense of community, where creatives and entrepreneurs actively support each other’s growth. The future of the Diaspora lies in collaboration, networking, and a shared vision of elevating African products and projects to new heights.
By coming together, sharing knowledge, and pushing for collective success, the Diaspora can not only reach its full potential but also create positive, lasting images of everything that originates from the African Diaspora. The different networking events which Diaspora Creatives hosted and participated were a testament to the power of connection and the undeniable potential that lies within the Diaspora. Now, it is time to turn ideas into action and ensure that the Diaspora continues to grow and thrive on the global stage.
